“The Wacky Wheeler”

THE SCOOP

One could guess Rob Summerbell was in for a long life of acrobatic lunacy when as a young man, year after year in the Fourth of July parade in his hometown, he and his skateboard team would get cajoled into doing handstands the entire 2-mile length of the parade. They would inevitably end up with heat stroke, thus swearing it off, only to repeat the same ordeal the following year.

He spent years frightening the parents with upside-down loopty-loops on the skateboard, and roller blade racing (you really can go 40 m.p.h. on roller blades!). Ever diverse, he then added a 10-year stint of trapeze performing, choreographing, and teaching for the Madison-based Cycropia Aerial Dance Troupe.

As an 8-year veteran of The Jolly Giants Performance Troupe, he can count Trapeze Ice Skating (“flying on ice” as we call it) and wheeling his Wacky Wheel in the National Cherry Blossom Parade, right past the White House, among his many feats.
